Going for Gold, Together
As the world turns its attention to the Winter Olympics in Milan, we are reminded that no athlete reaches the podium alone. While we see the breathtaking performances on the ice and snow, we don’t always see the early mornings, setbacks, relentless training, coaches, teammates, and supporters who make victory possible.
At Harford Family House, we witness a similar journey every day.

Our residents are striving for their own version of gold: stable housing, meaningful employment, financial independence, and a brighter future for their children. Their paths are not easy. Like Olympic athletes, they face obstacles that require resilience, discipline, and determination. As in the Olympics, behind every success stands a dedicated team.
This winter, our staff and volunteers are working tirelessly behind the scenes. Case managers are guiding families through budgeting and goal planning. Shelter staff are ensuring warm, safe spaces each night. Volunteers are preparing meals, mentoring children, sorting donations, and offering encouragement when they are needed most. Administrative teams are securing resources and building partnerships to strengthen the support system around every resident we serve.
None of this work happens in the spotlight. Yet it is this steady, compassionate effort that helps individuals and families cross their own finish lines.
We often say that achieving stability is a team sport. It takes coordination, trust, and a shared commitment to the goal. Our residents bring courage and determination. Our staff brings expertise and unwavering support. Our volunteers bring heart and generosity. Our donors provide the critical resources that make progress possible.
Together, we are building something stronger than shelter; we are building opportunity, dignity, and lasting change.
As we cheer on athletes striving for Olympic dreams, we are equally inspired by the quiet victories happening every day within our programs: a new job secured, a savings milestone reached, a child thriving in school, a family moving into permanent housing.
These are gold-medal moments, too.
Thank you for being part of the team that makes it possible.
With gratitude and warm wishes,
Robin Tomechko, CEO
Sandra Osborn, Board Chair
